Why One Treatment Is Not Enough to Fix Your Skin Concerns
Kasey Bennett, FNP-BCAs a nurse practitioner at Hi, Finch Cosmetic Dermatology, one of the most common questions I hear is, “Can we fix this in just one treatment?” Whether the concern is hyperpigmentation and sun damage, acne, rosacea, fine lines, or uneven skin texture, the answer is almost always the same: one treatment is not enough—and that’s completely normal.
Skin Correction Requires Consistency, Not Quick Fixes
Most skin concerns develop over time. Sun damage accumulates from years of UV exposure, acne is driven by inflammation and hormones, and rosacea is a chronic condition that requires ongoing management. Because of this, correcting these concerns requires a series of treatments, not a single visit.
For most patients, we recommend a minimum of three consistent in-office treatments, typically spaced 4–6 weeks apart. This timing allows your skin to properly heal, regenerate, and respond to each treatment. In the case of acne treatment, more than three sessions are often needed to fully calm inflammation, regulate oil production, and prevent future breakouts.
Each treatment builds on the previous one—gradually improving tone, texture, clarity, and overall skin health.
Think of Skin Treatments Like Working Out
I often compare professional skin treatments to going to the gym. You wouldn’t work out once and expect long-term results. You show up consistently, follow a plan, and trust the process. Skin works the same way.
When patients commit to a treatment series, we’re able to make real changes at the cellular level—stimulating collagen, correcting pigment, reducing redness, and improving overall skin function. Consistency on the front end leads to the best, longest-lasting results.
Maintenance Mode: Protecting Your Investment
Once we’ve corrected the primary concern—whether that’s acne, sun damage, or redness—we transition into maintenance mode. This typically means coming in every 3–4 months for professional treatments to maintain and protect the progress we’ve already made.
Maintenance isn’t about starting over. It’s about keeping your skin healthy, preventing new damage, and ensuring your results last.
At-Home Skincare Matters Just as Much
Professional treatments are only part of the equation. Being consistent with your at-home skincare routine is equally important. At Hi, Finch Cosmetic Dermatology, we strongly recommend pharmaceutical grade skincare.
Think of pharmaceutical grade skincare as insurance for your in-office treatments. These products contain ingredients that work deeper in the skin, helping your treatments work better and last longer. Patients who are consistent at home often see faster improvement and more durable results.
Our Hi, Finch private label skincare line is entirely pharmaceutical grade, meaning the ingredients used in these products have been clinically studied for safety and efficacy. In addition, these formulations are made with clean, high-quality ingredients, so you can feel confident in what you’re putting on your skin every day.
Consistency Is Key for Healthy, Radiant Skin
The bottom line? Healthy, radiant skin is a long game. There is no magic single treatment—but there is a proven, effective process. Consistency with your treatment plan, consistency with your at-home routine, and realistic expectations make all the difference.
At Hi, Finch Cosmetic Dermatology, our goal is to create a personalized treatment plan and partner with you every step of the way. When you trust the plan and stay consistent, the results truly speak for themselves.
